What is Biometric Authentication and How to Configure It?

The Binance App now accepts FIDO biometric authentication from Binance. For two-factor authentication (2FA), in addition to email, SMS, Binance Authenticator, and Google Authenticator, you can use your face or fingerprint. This can strengthen account security and better safeguard your assets.

Biometric authentication: What is it?

Biometric authentication is a security measure that verifies users by using their physical traits, like their face or fingerprints. In order to protect your account, it is typically necessary for account setting updates, withdrawal authorization, etc.

To enable biometric authentication on the Binance App, Binance implemented the FIDO protocol. Your biometric data won't be shared with Binance or sent over the network to any outside parties because it will only be stored on your device, and the authentication process will be carried out locally.

Benefits of utilizing Secure Biometric Authentication:

  • The face and fingerprint data serve as an exclusive form of identification that cannot be copied. It won't be sent to any third-party networks or clouds; it will only be saved locally on your device.
  • Convenient: You can finish 2FA in a matter of seconds with just a quick glance or touch. The verification code from your 2FA devices does not need to be manually checked and entered.

How do I configure the Binance App for biometric authentication?

On the Binance App, there are two ways to enable biometric authentication.

Method 1

You will be prompted to enable biometric authentication after logging into your Binance app. Think of Face ID. Toggle [Enable Now].

2. Your device will automatically initiate the authentication and you’re all set.

Method 2

1. After logging in, go to [Profile] - [Security] - [Biometric Authentication] on the Binance App. Simply select [Add Biometric Authentication].

2. The authentication will be started by your device on its own, and you're good to go.
